How are ratings calculated?

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don't use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

These paints are very nice and glow extremely bright neon when just on the palette. Way cool. I've found that sunlight is not actually the strongest, and if the glow starts to fade, shining a daylight or UV bulb on the painting will super recharge the glow and works better.

I have 3 problems with these paints, though.

1) There are no directions in the box to mix the paint thoroughly before use. The oil and phosphorescent paste separation is bad and what happens is it comes out like snot and the rest of the oil paint in the tube is tackier and harder to spread because the phosphorescent paste is grainy. Even after reading another review here to mix with a toothpick, it's like mixing almond butter and the paint in the bottom of the tube is still thick and chunky. There are minimal directions in the box, but I feel like this specialized paint deserves more expansive directions. I appreciate that I could've called the owner for tips, but you should really write out all those tips BEFORE the customer wastes all the paint out of the tube. I'm sure a simple full sheet of paper with more directions would be way cheaper than a postcard with cool graphics advertising the paints.

2) Ease of use. Because of the above problems, the spreadability is weird and thin. Almost like a fluid acrylic mixed with iridescent paint. I honestly would like to know how their demo portrait on Amazon got so layered because of the slippery, thin consistency. Like I said before, it's like painting with mucous. In my opinion, I think ease of use for these paints is on a super expert level, unless you plan to use the paint to just fill in the blanks of line drawings.

3) Effectiveness. While the colors do glow brightly in the dark—I have experimented leaving my painting in the sun all day, but the glow effect only lasts 1-2 hours. Also, because of the lack of directions to mix the paint beforehand, I wasted a lot of paint and these are only 22ml tubes, not 40ml, and this stressed me out for a $70 box of paints.

Don't get me wrong guys, I love these paints. They are a super inventive medium, I just think they can be improved upon a bit & wish there were more directions for better execution since the paint does not act like typical oil paint. Here's to more painting!

These are THE WORST paints I have ever tried in over 30 years of fine artistry. I purchased these for an album cover design and they are all textured like salty toothpaste. If you've ever used loose pigment powders, you'll know what I'm talking about. These are mixed with a bad paint to create a salty lump of textured and scratchy goo on your brushes. Dealing with that salty texture, it barely registers in a white canvas. You need to put these on top of real colors and even then they are barely noticeable. I am so angry. I want my $80 back. These paints are all complete garbage and unusable!!! 😡😡😡😡

I actually met the creator on the street in Alameda. I was your first sale, bud! Remember me? Anyway, I figured I'd try something new and I was not disappointed. This set I purchased as a gift for a friend. The painting I made to test the effect still glows strong on my wall, every night.

I don't just give out good reviews. This product earned my continuing interest.

One note, I need a yellow that just glows yellow? Still, really fun to play with.

I bought some glow cubed paint for mixed media project I am working on. The paint arrived on time and each tube was protected with bubble wrap. I wanted translucent neon effect over a high contrast B/W image image. After a couple of tries to get the right viscosity (add linseed oil) I was able to paint multiple layers to create a more textured glow and color effect. I was blown away by the intensity of the glowing effect as well as the intensity of contrasting colors between the light and glowing image. The lighter the under-layer, the more it glows. When you charge the paint during the day, it glows more intense when more paint is applied. Follow the instructions and use common sense. The photos speak for themselves.

Next, I mixed the paint with paint thinner, till is was creamy. I poured the paint onto the canvas. The paint dried very quick and is translucent over the darker color. It is exactly the quality material I will be using for

My last and most successful application was to add thinner and pour the paint onto the canvas and let it run. This way the paint dries quick and has a pastry like texture.

Amazing product with many possibilities and easy to work with on large format canvas, check out they insane colors and glow in my photos.

Russ' self luminous oils are in a class by themselves. These oils remain luminous far longer than anything else I've tried. Plus, there's some truly wonderful colors in this starter set. I've tried a lot of florescent/phosphorescent media. None come close to the potential in these gems. When I went to close the door to my studio, I thought I'd left a light on.
Be sure to shake them or mix them with a tooth pick. The creator, Russ, has been very kind with help on the phone. I recommend learning how to use this media. There's a few tricks to getting the most from them, but the effort is worth it.

These are NOT glow in the dark paints, but rather a layer that you put on top of surfaces to make them glow.

They interact with surface color poorly and unpredictably

I used white on white, and got green, while the label said it should produce whiteish peach

Great product! I used it to oil paint six small pictures of my uncles house to use as Xmas cards for his kids. I used the glo paint on the Xmas lights and lights on the bushes. I put the finished paintings in the sun for an hour or so and was shocked at how bright they were in a dark room. As with other oil paint I always shake the tubes and squeeze slightly before opening to distribute any oil that may have separated. A great product and will definitely recommend and use again.
